ISO technical report to help oil and gas sector measure flowrate in pipelinesThe oil and gas sector will benefit from a recently published technical report from ISO on measuring flowrate in pipelines. ISO/TR 9464:2008, Guidelines for the use of ISO 5167:2003, presents guidance on applying the ruled and requirements of ISO 5167 based on theory and experimental work undertaken in the field of flow measurement. The report will help petroleum and gas shippers and producing. exporting and importing nations to get the best from ISO 5167:2003, Measurement of fluid flow by means of pressure differential devices inserted in circular cross-section conduits running full. ISO 5167:2003 is an International Standard (in four parts) for flow measurement based on the differential pressure generated by a constriction introduced into a circular conduit. It covers the geometry and method of use of orifice plates, nozzles and Venturi tubes when they are inserted in a conduit running full to determine the flowrate of the fluid flowing in the conduit. It also gives necessary information for calculating the flowrate and its associated uncertainly. ISO/TR 9464 answers some important questions which might arise on the use of ISO 5167, For example, on calculating upstream from downstream temperature. With the application of the rules it provides, it is practicable to achieve flow measurement within an uncertainly of approximately 1% of the calculated flowrate. For details refer to www.iso.org |
